Alaska Frontier Scene - Along the Seward Highway by Rail - Alaska

One of the many scenes we got to take in as we traveled by rail on our Alaska trip in 2009. This is somewhere between Anchorage and Seward. The landscape is beautifully diverse, with views of the mountains, meadows, rivers, the Turnagain arm, and the Gulf of Alaska.

The All American Road - Near Escalante - Utah

Utah's Highway 12 Scenic Byway is also known as "The All American Road." The byway is about 124 miles, and takes you through some amazingly beautiful areas, including Capital Reef, Bryce Canyon, Kodachrome Basin, Glen Canyon, and Escalante. This shot is close not far from Escalante, as we were on our way from Arches (with an overnight stay in Torrey) to Bryce Canyon.

Be sure to choose this road the next time you are in the area. You'll be surprised at all it has to offer!

Crater Lake - Oregon (2012)

This shot of Crater Lake is also from our epic RV trip in 2012. The backdrop is Wizard Island. All the water in Crater Lake is from snow/rain, as there are no rivers running into the lake. They also don't allow any motorboat activity, other than rangers, I believe, which keeps the lake pristine.

Darcy and Bailey at the old Shell Station - Bodie - California (2011)

This one is from one of our treks off Interstate 395 when we decided to see what Bodie, California, was all about. Bodie is a ghost town now, but was a bustling gold-mining area with nearly 10,000 residents in the late 1800s. This is the old fueling station, with a 1927 Dodge Graham truck on display. This is a very cool place to visit, and is just about 20 miles off the highway, north of Mono Lake.

O'Briens Tower - Cliffs of Moher - County Clare - Ireland

Built in 1835, O'Briens Tower sits above the Cliffs of Moher. Rumor is that Cornelius O'Brien, the landowner, built the tower as an observation tower to draw tourists to the area, but specifically women. According to some locals, this was supposedly his part-time "bachelor pad."

Manhattan Sunset Cruise - New York - New York

Here's a digital shot from 2004, from a Minolta Dimage 5 camera that I had back then. We were in New York to celebrate my birthday with the Fienes and Adlers. We took one of the circle line harbor cruises around Manhattan on a beautiful day, and we were just returning at sunset. The shot is a little blurry as a result, but the colors were strong enough that I wanted to share the photo!

Fun Photo Friday: Snowy Selfie

Probably no more snow days for this guy, so I thought I'd post this shot from a fantastic ski day in this epic ski season that we had.

Haleakala Crater - Maui - Hawaii

Haleakala National Park is a fantastic place to visit when you're in Hawaii. The drive is a windy, but the view is well worth it. At the summit, you'll arrive at Haleakala Crater, which is humongous at nearly 7 miles across and 1/2 mile deep.

Sunbreak in the Hood - Carmel Valley - San Diego - California

Happy Monday! This shot is from the neighborhood. Darcy was walking with Bailey during the storm, and came home to tell me I should grab my camera and get some shots of the sun breaking through the clouds. So I did, and I was not disappointed.
